This article was written by Thomas L. Friedman in the New York Times on January 21, 2009. This article is directed to the American people. I believe it is written to stir a fire in people of all nationalities and genders just as Oboma’s inauguration speech was ment to do.
The purpose of this article is to reach out and remind the American people that this election is not about fame and glamour but reality. The reality of a man that is going to be leading us and making decisions for the present day and for our next generations.
The author argues that we have made many mistakes in our past. With the mistakes this country has made, President Oboma is able to look back at history and work hard not to repeat these same mistakes. He is also able to look back and see how many of our former Presidents handled national crisis such as The Great Depression, Civil Rights Movment and others as the author stated.
In conclusion there is no daubt that this is a new season and new time for Change. The President has a lot on his plate and the American people are going to hold the President accountable- more than ever. They want hope and change therefore failure is not an option.
