Assignment #1 tbeasley

The article written by Thomas L. Friedman in the New York Times was written to express the author's views on Obama's presidency and to state that we as a country do need what was so eloquently promised by our Nation's first black president...CHANGE; not just small changes, but dramatic significant changes to our government and bureaucracy. The author seems to believe that a dramatic change in our nation's values, practices and government regulations is absolutely essential if our Nation is to pull out of the current economic situation and move forward into growth and prosperity.
The intended audience for this article seems to be America as a whole, but also those doubters of the new President. The author seems to be trying to entice them to believe that one man alone can bring change to our country, if he could indeed make good on all his campaign promises, if he can in fact make "radical departure from business as usual, led by Washington".
The whole of America needs to realize however, that one man alone did not get America into "the very deep holes" it currently finds itself in, and one man alone cannot dig America out of them.
