assignment #1 Scastaldo

"They rewrote the social construct and redefined what it means to be a citizen," Thomas L. Friedman of the New York Times writes. His thoughts about how some of our former presidents changed our country mirrors his hope that Obama can accomplish the same duirng this presidency.
Friedman argues in this article "Americans look to government to solve fundamental problems that affect them directly." Nationalized healthcare, alternative energy, and a new view of America on the world stage are some of the things that Obama has promised and Friedman believes that we have waited too long for these issues to be addressed. He tells us his hope that Obama truely is a radical, that he's up to the challenge, and does not squander his moment.
He tells us in this article the American people also have to be open and willing to work for change. "The hour is late, the project couldn't be harder, the stakes couldn't be higher, and the payoff couldn't be greater." We can all hope that what Friedman writes will happen, that through American hard work and determination, we will come out a better and stronger country and continue to be a world leader.
